How it works

A projector points down.
The floor lights up. Kids do the rest.

Neon Grid is a web page. Open it on a laptop, send the picture to a projector aimed at the floor (or a wall), and the surface becomes a grid of glowing tiles that tells the kids what to do — like a play-along video they can run around inside. Add a webcam and the floor feels their feet.

01 · CAST

Point and open

Aim the projector at the floor or a wall, open neongrid.club/go on the laptop, tap Floor or Wall. Press F for fullscreen. That is the whole install.

02 · CALIBRATE

Four flashes and it knows the floor

With a webcam beside the projector, clear the floor and tap Calibrate: the board lights each corner in turn, the camera finds them, and it checks itself with a tile in the middle. Seconds, not minutes. No camera? Skip it — every game plays along without one.

03 · PLAY

Pick a game, pick players, GO

Levels 1→8 with a coach voice, music and a clock, then a victory parade — and it loops back to level 1 so it runs a whole party by itself. A phone becomes the remote with a three-letter code.

The games

Twenty-three ways to run around.

Every game shares the same bones — eight levels that get faster, a clock, pause, a parade at the end — so kids learn the rhythm once. Party Mix shuffles a surface's games a few levels at a time and calls "Next game!" Click any picture to see it big.

Fish Chase

A pond on a fine grid: chase the fish, grab the starfish when it settles

Zombie Grab: a winding stone path through fog with zombies rising at its edges

Zombie Grab

Walk the path while zombies claw across it — step round, jump, duck the bats

Dino Steps: a trail of pink footprints across the floor

Dino Steps

One kid is the dinosaur: stomp the footprints as they fade in, corner to corner

Hot Potato: a white potato trail between coloured spots

Hot Potato

Pass it round the spots; when it blows, that colour does five jumps

Sweep: a red bar sweeping across a white floor

Sweep

A red arm spins from the middle — it speeds up, reverses, and grows to four

Break Away: a white floor with its edges crumbling into darkness

Break Away

The floor crumbles until only a secret island is left; earthquakes from level 4

Space Invaders: green aliens above three coloured pads

Space Invaders

"Pew pew!" — get the aliens from your pad, dodge the bombs, clear the wave

Rhythm Lanes: four lanes with notes falling toward a hit line

Rhythm Lanes

Notes fall down your lane onto the hit line, on the beat of the music

Hole in the Wall: three coloured walls with a body-shaped hole cut in each

Hole in the Wall

Make the body shape cut out of your wall before it locks in

Balloon Pop: an orange and a green balloon rising on a dark wall

Balloon Pop

Pop them before they float away — but not the red one

Birthday mode

The whole floor sings happy birthday.

Type a name on the setup screen. It goes on the scoreboard, and winning ends in a birthday parade: everyone marches round the edge while the middle of the floor becomes an LED sign scrolling HAPPY BIRTHDAY ♥ NAME, then a pixel cake builds up and shoots fireworks — with the birthday song over the music.

  • Runs itself: levels 1→8, parade, back to level 1 — for as long as the party lasts
  • Coach voice calls the moves so no grown-up has to referee
  • Nine bundled music tracks; volume for music, effects and voice on the phone
  • Any phone in the room becomes the remote — game, players, speed, pause
The birthday parade: an LED sign across the floor reading DAY! heart MAYA in pixel letters, coloured tiles marching round the edge
A pixel birthday cake with lit candles and fireworks on the LED sign
Victory parade: a coloured route round the floor with the words VICTORY PARADE
Two ways to play

Works with nothing. Gets better with a webcam.

Play-along

Just the projector

The surface tells the kids what to do and they chase it, like a fitness video they can stand inside. Every game is designed so it plays perfectly with no sensing at all — that is how it runs today at parties.

Camera mode

The floor feels their feet

A webcam beside the projector and an on-device pose model (up to six people) turn each kid into a body on the grid: step on a tile and it counts; stand where the lava lands and you lose a heart. Nothing leaves the laptop — no cloud, no video stored.

Phone remote

Run it from your pocket

Tap Add phone controller for a three-letter code, join from any phone, and you have every setting: game, players, level length, speed, sound, rotate — plus start, pause and new game.

What you need

A projector, a laptop, a floor.

  • ProjectorAny HDMI projector; 3,000+ lumens keeps colours punchy with the lights half on. Ceiling mount pointing down for floor games, or on a table for wall games.
  • Laptop with ChromeMac or PC. Open the page, press F for fullscreen. No install, no account, works offline once loaded.
  • Floor spaceA clear patch up to about 4 m long under a normal 2.4–2.7 m ceiling. Portrait play area, scoreboard on any edge.
  • Webcam (optional)Any USB webcam mounted beside the projector with the whole floor in view; a depth camera for bigger rooms. Auto-calibrates in seconds.
  • SpeakerMusic, effects and the coach voice — a Bluetooth speaker is plenty.
  • KidsOne to six at a time; more take turns between levels. Ages 3 and up.
Bring it to your space
